Online Poker in NJ to Have Strict Border Limitations

If you find yourself on the edge of New Jersey you may be locked out of the upcoming launch of legal real-money online poker in the state.

According to a story with the Washington Post, tech companies have been working with Atlantic City Casinos to put so-called digital fencing near the borders of New Jersey.

The problem for New Jersey residents who want to play online poker is that the fencing does not exactly coincide with the actual border.

The casinos have elected to be very cautious as they roll out online poker in the state and want to avoid anyone playing on their sites from neighboring New York or Pennsylvania.

The end result is that there will be small no-play zones, which are actually located in New Jersey.

Players located on the edge of the state’s borders near the Hudson and Delaware rivers may have the most difficulty because the government moved the boundaries in-land to avoid players from New York and Pennsylvania sneaking in to play.

As geo-location technology improves, the casinos expect to be able to reduce the size of these no-play zones.

New Jersey is set to become the third state to allow legal online poker later this week. Online poker is already running in Nevada and Delaware.
